Program Details & Structure
Below are some of are common questions about our Little Stitchers + Teen Sewing program.
Our program is designed to be calm, creative, supportive, and confidence-building.
Because of our small-group format and low 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, instructors are able to spend individual time with each student throughout class and tailor their teaching approach to different learning styles and personalities.
Many parents tell us their children become more independent at home after attending sewing classes. Students often become more confident tackling hobbies and activities independently, including sewing on their own machines at home, following instructions, cooking, knitting, crochet, and other creative projects.
Our goal is not simply to teach sewing projects — it is to help children build confidence, creativity, independence, and lifelong practical skills.
Students attend the same class day and time each week throughout the sewing year.
Classes run from September through June and follow a progressive curriculum where students gradually build confidence and sewing skills over time.
We do not run classes on holidays or scheduled studio closures.
Your yearly tuition covers a total of 32 sewing classes throughout the September–June sewing year. Your payment is split over 9 months (September - May). Your deposit (payment at registration) covers your first month's tuition.
2026/2027 Little Stitchers/Teen Sewing Program Calendar
Our weekly sewing program is designed for ages 7–17.
Students work together in the same classroom environment but projects are adapted based on age and sewing level. In general, students ages 12–17 (teen) work on different projects than our younger little stitchers students ages 7–11.
Students are sometimes grouped by age and sometimes by the project they are working on.
No previous sewing experience is required. However, all students must first complete our prerequisite class before attending weekly sewing lessons, camps, or workshops.
The prerequisite class teaches sewing machine basics, studio safety, and foundational sewing skills so students can participate confidently and independently in future classes.
Our program is designed to teach real, practical sewing skills that build from the basics to more advanced techniques over time. Students will learn:
- How to confidently use a sewing machine – threading, stitching, and safe practices.
- Working with different fabrics – from cottons to trickier textiles as their skills grow.
- Making their own clothes and accessories – experiencing the pride of creating wearable projects.
- Upcycling and mending – including hand-sewing techniques like patching and simple repairs.
We teach in a stepwise progression, so your child won’t learn everything in just a few classes. Instead, each session introduces new skills and fresh projects, keeping them excited while ensuring a strong foundation that grows with every unit.
Not at all! Our sewing programs are open and welcoming to children and teens of all genders. We offer a wide variety of projects throughout the year, including many unisex sewing patterns and garment options.
That said, we understand some boys may feel more comfortable joining a class where there are other boys participating as well. Because of this, we often recommend our Monday class option for families specifically looking for this type of environment.
All genders are welcome in every class offering. While students follow a progressive curriculum together, there are often a few garment or project variations available so students can choose options that best suit their style and comfort level.
Students work through a progressive curriculum throughout the year designed to gradually build sewing confidence and skills.
Projects range from beginner-friendly makes to more advanced garment and accessory projects. While students follow a structured curriculum together, there are often a few garment or project variations available so students can choose options that best suit their personal style.
Projects are adapted as needed so students feel challenged — but never overwhelmed.
Yes — students may join the weekly sewing program mid-year as long as space is available.
Students first attend one of our upcoming prerequisite classes and then are placed directly into the weekly program the following week.
Depending on when your child starts, the first monthly payment may be prorated or waived. For example, if your child begins close to the end of the month, the next monthly payment may be skipped.
Tuition and Class Logistics
Below are some common questions with regards to how tuition works, cancellation, and missed classes.
Weekly sewing lessons are billed through a monthly subscription. Tuition is charged on the 2nd of each month from October through May. Your first payment (deposit) covers your first month of tuition.
The monthly tuition is $150/month + HST
Tuition includes:
- 32 Sewing Classes from Sept - June (1 class per week).
- All fabrics and sewing materials needed for projects
- Use of sewing machines and studio equipment during class
- Small-group instruction with a 5:1 student-to-instructor ratio
- A progressive sewing curriculum throughout the year
Tuition does not include the student's personal sewing toolkit.
Yes — the minimum commitment is one month.
Yes — tuition may be cancelled at any time through your subscription manager as long as cancellation occurs at least 2 weeks prior to the next billing date.
If cancellation occurs within the 2-week window before the next charge, please contact us directly at info@mainfabric.com.
If we are able to fill your child’s spot from the waitlist, the upcoming payment may be returned as a store credit valid for 1 year from issue date.
If your child leaves the program and later wishes to return, re-enrollment or waitlist placement may be required depending on space availability.
Students may request to switch class days throughout the year depending on availability.
We encourage families to send a message through the app or contact our team at info@mainfabric.com if they are looking for a different class day. We are happy to help coordinate possible switches where available.
If a class is full, we strongly recommend joining the waitlist.
When a spot becomes available, we email everyone currently on the waitlist for that specific class. Families have 48 hours to respond indicating whether they are available to take the spot.
Priority is then offered based on waitlist order among the families who responded within the timeframe.
Returning families are notified about registration openings before the general public.
We understand students may occasionally miss class due to illness or vacation.
To support families, we host 5 makeup sessions throughout the sewing year (September–June).
Makeup sessions are first come, first served and can be attended by students who have missed classes due to illness or vacation. If you need to register for a make-up class choose the date you would like to attend (view the calendar below). Then, email info@mainfabric.com with your child's name the date they missed or will miss, and the make-up class you would like to attend.
Yes! Children who benefit from additional support can thrive in these creative environments. The hands-on, focused nature of sewing can be a great fit for a wide range of learning styles and needs.
That said, it’s important to know that students in our program are expected to use a sewing machine with periodic supervision—not continuous one-on-one support. If your child may need additional assistance to safely and confidently participate in this kind of environment, we required you to reach out to us before registering.
If you are confident your child can use the equioment safely, we require you to reach out to us before registering. This allows us to prepare appropriately so that your child, our instructors, and the rest of the class can all have a positive and successful experience. We're happy to work with you to create a plan that supports your child’s needs in the studio.

Prerequisite Class
Below are some common questions about our mandatory prerequisite class.
The Main Fabric Prerequisite Class is a one-time introductory sewing class required before attending any Main Fabric sewing programs, workshops, camps, or recurring classes.
This class helps students build confidence with the sewing machine while also learning studio orientation and important safety procedures.
Once completed, students may attend any future age-appropriate Main Fabric workshop or camp offering without repeating the prerequisite.
The prerequisite class is 2.5 hours long.
We typically offer prerequisite sessions every 2 weeks, including additional dates leading up to Summer Camp and March Break Camp.
Yes — all new students are required to complete our Kids and Teen Intro (prerequisite) Class, even if they’ve sewn before.
This one-time, 2.5-hour class ensures that every student:
- Learns our studio’s specific machines and safe practices
- Gets oriented to our tools, space, and expectations
- Builds a common foundation with the rest of the group
Even experienced sewists usually find it helpful to review the basics in a new environment, and it allows our instructors to assess each student’s comfort level. Once the prerequisite is complete, your child will be ready to join any of our 6-week sessions, mini-camps, or special workshops — and they won’t need to take it again.
Students learn:
- Sewing machine anatomy
- Sewing machine safety
- Basic machine operation
- Foundational sewing techniques
- How to confidently use a sewing machine independently
Each student works at their own sewing machine station and completes a small beginner sewing project during class.
We provide all materials, sewing machines, and tools needed for the prerequisite class. If your child would like to attend more sewing programs at Main Fabric they would then need to bring/purchase a toolkit.
No — students do not need their own toolkit for the prerequisite class.
However, students attending ongoing workshops or weekly sewing lessons are expected to bring their own sewing toolkit moving forward.
Parents are not required to stay during the prerequisite class.
If a child is feeling especially nervous about trying a new skill or being in a new environment, we are happy to accommodate parents staying briefly while the student settles in.
Over time, we encourage students to build confidence and independence within the studio environment.
Toolkits and Other Materials
Below are some common questions about what students need to bring and other costs besides the course cost.
Yes — students attending weekly sewing lessons are expected to bring their own sewing toolkit to class.
Having personal tools helps students build independence and become comfortable using the same tools consistently throughout their sewing projects.
NOTE: Students do NOT need the toolkit for the prerequisite class. Only if they are continuing in any of our other programs including weekly sessions, PA DAY / Winter / March Break / Summer camps.
Our curated toolkit includes:
- Fabric Scissors
- Precision Snips
- 1" x 6" Omnigrid Ruler
- Seam Gauge
- Wash-Out Marker
- Seam Ripper
- Pin Cushion + Straight Pins
- Wonder Clips
- Measuring Tape
- Magnetic Seam Guide
- Bobbins (5-pack)
🎒 Regular Price: $65
💥 Special Enrollment Price: $50 when purchased alongside class registration
Families are also welcome to source tools independently. We simply ask that students arrive with the required tools listed above.
No. Once your child has their sewing toolkit, all fabrics, thread, notions, patterns, and project materials are included in the cost of the program.
We work hard to make sewing as accessible and stress-free as possible for families. Students simply bring their toolkit to class each week, and we provide everything else needed to complete their projects.
Occasionally, students may choose to purchase additional fabric or supplies for a special project or personal preference, but this is never required as part of the curriculum.
Materials are the items that get used up during sewing projects—like fabric, thread, zippers, elastic, and buttons. These are provided as part of your course fee and change depending on the project.
Tools, on the other hand, are the reusable items your child will need for every class—like scissors, pins, rulers, and marking pens. These are not included in the course fee and must be brought to class each week. You can either assemble your own or purchase our curated Little Stitchers Toolkit at a discounted price.
No—students must bring proper fabric shears that are sharp and used only for fabric. Dull or incorrect scissors can make it very difficult for students to cut accurately. Our Beginner Toolkit includes LDH scissors, available in left- or right-handed versions.
Studio Environment & Policies
Creating a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment is an important part of what we do. Below are answers to some common questions about our studio policies and classroom expectations.
We work hard to create a calm, welcoming, and inspiring studio environment where students feel comfortable being creative, trying new things, and learning at their own pace.
Many parents tell us their children feel peaceful and relaxed in the studio environment, which allows their confidence and creativity to flourish over time.
We work with shy or nervous students all the time.
It is very common for students to feel nervous during their first few classes or want their parent to stay briefly while they settle in. That is completely okay.
Our instructors are experienced in helping students feel comfortable gradually and at their own pace. Over time, most students become noticeably more confident and independent within the studio environment.
Phone use is discouraged during sewing classes so students can remain focused, engaged, and present in the creative process.
Yes — the studio is nut-free.
Students are welcome to bring snacks and water bottles to class. Snacks should be consumed away from the sewing work areas.
If your child has allergies, please ensure they are noted during registration. Students requiring an EpiPen must bring it with them to class and inform instructors where it is located.
From time to time, students may be too unwell to attend class. Sewing requires focus, coordination, patience, and dexterity, and students generally have a much more positive experience when they are feeling rested and well enough to participate comfortably.
We encourage families to assess whether their child is well enough to attend class when feeling unwell.
Students who miss class due to illness in our weekly program may be welcome to attend our makeup sessions. There are no makeup sessions for camps.
If weather conditions make travel unsafe for students or instructors, families will be notified as soon as possible regarding class cancellation.
When weather-related closures occur, students will be able to attend a designated makeup session.
Our studio schedule runs very tightly between classes, so we kindly ask that parents arrive on time for pick-up.
Consistent late pick-ups may result in an additional late pick-up fee.
From time to time, we may take photos of student projects or classroom activities to showcase studio life and student creations.
We do not post identifiable photos of children’s faces publicly without direct parental consent. Most often, photos shared publicly show projects, hands, sewing progress, or students photographed from behind.
When possible, we often email photos directly to parents first to share their child’s accomplishments privately.
Sewing Camp FAQ
Summer Camp, March Break Camp, Winter Break Camp, & PA DAY Camps
Most of the policies and information outlined above also apply to our camps. Below are answers to some additional questions that are specific to our Summer Camps, PA Day Camps, March Break Camps, and other school break programs.
Summer Camp is generally best suited for ages 7–14.
If your child falls slightly outside of this age range and would still like to attend, please contact us. We are often able to accommodate students by recommending suitable weeks or adapting project options where appropriate.
Yes — all campers are required to complete the Kids & Teens Prerequisite Class before attending camp.
To make planning easy for families, we offer prerequisite classes throughout the year, typically hosting two sessions per month and adding additional dates as needed. The prerequisite class can be added to your cart alongside your camp registration.
No! Students do not need to be enrolled in our weekly sewing program to attend Summer Camps, PA Day Camps, March Break Camps, or other school break programs.
The only requirement is that campers complete our Kids & Teens Prerequisite Class before attending camp. The prerequisite class teaches sewing machine basics, studio safety, and foundational sewing skills so students can participate confidently and independently during camp.
Many of our campers are not enrolled in the weekly program and simply join us for camps throughout the year.
We always offer a range of project options designed for different skill levels, from brand-new beginners to confident beginner sewists and beyond.
Projects range from beginner-friendly makes to more advanced builds, and all projects are adapted as needed so students feel challenged—but never overwhelmed.
This approach allows both new and returning campers to have a successful and enjoyable experience while continuing to build their skills at their own pace.
Summer Camp follows a "choose your own adventure" format where students select projects from a variety of sewing options at the beginning of the week and work on those projects throughout camp with instructor support.
March Break, Winter Break, and PA Day Camps are typically organized around a featured project or theme. Students work on age- and skill-appropriate variations of the same project, which may include items such as bags, pouches, stuffies, garments, or home décor projects. This approach allows campers to learn together while still expressing their creativity through fabric and design choices.
Summer Camp includes:
- All fabrics and sewing materials
- A large selection of fun fabrics
- Use of sewing machines and equipment
- Small-group instruction with a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio
- Supportive instructors experienced in teaching young sewists
- Projects adapted to each child’s sewing level
- A calm, welcoming, and creative studio environment

More than 5 days before the program start date:
Cancellation requests received more than 5 days before the first day of the camp or program may be eligible for a credit toward a future Main Fabric program. In some cases, a full refund may be issued if we are able to fill your child's spot from the waitlist or through a new registration.
Within 5 days of the program start date:
Due to staffing, materials, and preparation commitments, cancellations made within 5 days of the first day of the program are not eligible for refunds or credits and the full program fee will be forfeited.
Why do we have this policy?
Our camps and school break programs have limited enrollment and require advance planning, staffing, and material purchases. This policy helps ensure we can continue offering small-group, high-quality sewing experiences for all participants.
