Serging, also known as overlocking, is a sewing technique that uses a specialized machine called a serger to create finished edges, seams, and hems on fabric. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to enhance your sewing skills, this hands-on workshop is perfect for you. The serger that we work on in the course is the Babylock Celebrate. 

You should already know how to:

  • Operate a home sewing machine
  • Sew woven materials - it is recommended that you've sewn at least one garment before 
  • If you are in our Adult Learn-to-Sew programming this course is ideal between Block 2 and 3. 

You will learn:

  • The parts of the serger machine
  • Using/disengaging the cutter
  • Threading the machine
  • Observing and adjusting the tension on the serger 
  • Observing and adjusting the differential feed
  • 3 thread and 4 thread overlocking stitches 
  • Finishing a stitch 
  • Stitching around curves and corners 

Included with the course fees:

  • All materials are included in this workshop 
  • 3 hours with an expert instructor 
  • Student handout to take home
  • Use of store equipment and tools
