Indigo Dyeing for Beginners

Join us for a full-day immersive workshop where you'll discover the magic of indigo dyeing! Guided by our talented instructor Erin, you'll learn the history and science of indigo, explore traditional shibori techniques, and create your own beautifully patterned textile using natural fiber fabric. All materials and food are included in this workshop. 

No sewing experience needed — there’s no sewing involved in this workshop, though you’re welcome to turn your dyed fabric into something later on!

Itinerary:

• 10:00 – 10:30 AM
  Welcome & Introduction
  Brief history of indigo, chemistry basics, and safety guidelines

• 10:30 – 11:15 AM
  Indigo Vat Setup Demo
  Overview of Shibori folding, binding, and resist techniques

• 11:15 AM – 12:30 PM
  Hands-on Fabric Preparation
  Fold, bind, clamp, and stitch fabric using various resist methods

• 12:30 – 1:15 PM
  ▪️ Lunch Break (Lunch Included)

• 1:15 – 2:30 PM
  Dyeing Session
  Rotate through vats in small groups
  Multiple dips with oxidation time in between

• 2:30 – 3:30 PM
  Rinse & Reveal
  Rinse dyed fabric, hang or bag for drying

• 3:30 – 4:00 PM
  Wrap-Up & Q&A
  Review dyeing process and care instructions

Included with your course fees:

• All materials are included in this course including 1 meter of natural fibre fabric for dyeing. 
• Lunch is included in course fee. 
• Handout detailing the materials required and step-by-step instruction to do indigo dyeing at home 
• Students can bring their own natural fibre fabrics to dye along with the fabric given.

Don't forget to add your workshop dates to your calendar as soon as you have registered. About a week prior to your workshop you will receive an email outlining further details of the workshop including what you will learn, what you need to bring, and our cancellation policy. The email will also include our class waiver that will need to be signed online prior to attending the workshop.

At the studio we allow water and light snacks around the cutting table and sewing machines, other types of drinks and larger snacks can be enjoyed in our store sitting area. Cell phones, devices are great learning tools, you are welcome to bring and use them.

Full payment of the workshop is required at the time of registration to reserve your spot. Participants must be 14 years of age or older to participate on their own in the workshop unless otherwise stated. Participants between the ages of 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign their liability waiver. Participants between the ages 8 - 13 years of age can participate in the workshop as long as a paying adult participating as well. 

Cancellation policy 

• Full Refund: Available for cancellations made more than 7 days before the workshop date.
• 50% Refund or Transfer: For cancellations made between 3 to 7 days prior to the workshop, you have the option of receiving a 50% refund or transferring your spot to the next available workshop. If there is no complimentary workshop you will receive a 50% refund. 
• No Refund/Transfer: Cancellations within 48 hours of the workshop date will not be eligible for a refund or transfer.

DEBUT workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable. 

Workshop spots are transferable, if you are unable to make your workshop, send a friend! Call or text us to let us know of the switch.
