Pouch Practice is a follow-up refresher to our Intro to Machine Sewing workshop. This two-hour session on Saturday mornings is for students to come in and keep their skills fresh by making a second (or third, or fourth) zippered pouch. Advanced sign-up is not required but you can register in advance to secure your spot.
Course kits are available for $10 but you are more than welcome to bring your own materials. You can purchase a kit prior to or on the day you come to the shop.
On the sewing machine you will independently (with assistance available!) refresh the following skills:
- winding the bobbin
- threading the machine
- changing the needle & pressor foot
- choosing stitches
- choosing stitch tension and width
- sewing a straight stitch & a zig-zag stitch
- reverse sewing
During your time in the shop you will practice the following skills, just like you did in Intro to Machine Sewing:
- cutting fabric
- pinning and ironing
- sewing a project, using different stitches
- sewing a zipper
This session includes:
- 2 hours of access to our machines, tools, and cutting tables
- Assistance from staff/an instructor if you get stuck
- A complimentary zippered pouch pattern

What to Bring: 1/4 mtr heavy-weight cotton or canvas material, 9 inch visible zipper, matching thread. Course kits can be purchased for $10.

Don't forget to add your workshop dates to your calendar as soon as you have registered. About a week prior to your workshop you will receive an email outlining further details of the workshop including what you will learn, what you need to bring, and our cancellation policy. The email will also include our class waiver that will need to be signed online prior to attending the workshop.

At the studio we allow water and light snacks around the cutting table and sewing machines, other types of drinks and larger snacks can be enjoyed in our store sitting area. Cell phones, devices are great learning tools, you are welcome to bring and use them.

Full payment of the workshop is required at the time of registration to reserve your spot. Participants must be 14 years of age or older to participate on their own in the workshop unless otherwise stated. Participants between the ages of 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign their liability waiver. Participants between the ages 8 - 13 years of age can participate in the workshop as long as a paying adult participating as well.
Cancellation policy
Our cancellation policy will change as of April 8th 2024. Changes to the policy help us to provide a better experience to all of our clients. Below is our new class cancellation policy that will take into effect as of April 8th 2024.
- Full Refund: Available for cancellations made more than 7 days before the workshop date.
- 50% Refund or Transfer: For cancellations made between 3 to 7 days prior to the workshop, you have the option of receiving a 50% refund or transferring your spot to the next available workshop. If there is no complimentary workshop you will receive a 50% refund.
- No Refund/Transfer: Cancellations within 48 hours of the workshop date will not be eligible for a refund or transfer.
DEBUT workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable.
