Join us for "Sew Your First Pattern," a class designed specifically for beginners ready to approach the world of sewing! Whether you're looking to make your very first garment or enhance your basic sewing skills, this course offers the perfect opportunity. Under the expert guidance of our instructors, you will confidently tackle beginner-friendly patterns and learn essential sewing techniques.
We welcome past participants to join the Sew Your First Pattern course again to continue their sewing journey - work on one of our suggested patterns or bring a pattern of your choosing.

Course Outline:
Preparation: Choose from our selection of fantastic beginner patterns. Everything will be ready for you at the store. You can purchase your fabric prior to attending the first class OR purchase during your first class.
Part 1: Measure your body and consult with the instructor and size chart for the pattern. Review and complete the steps to prepare your sewing pattern and fabric pieces. Review and complete preparation of the sewing machine and using the foundational sew stitches.
Part 2: Sew your pattern under supervision of our expert instructors, follow along with the instructions and take careful notes of the amazing tips and tricks from the experts. Adjust your pattern as you go to ensure you are getting the look and fit that you want.
You should already know how to:
- Trace your pattern
- Thread a sewing machine with some help
- Use basic stitches like straight stitch and zig-zag stitch
You will learn:
- The step-by-step process of creating a simple wearable item/garment
- Applying those essential garment-making techniques (as taught in Garment Basics and Intro to Machine Sewing).

Special Note - Although we encourage attendance for every session over the 6-week course we understand that scheduling conflicts arise. If you are to miss a session, you will be able to consult with the instructor by email to see if anything important was missed and they will make sure to catch you up in the next class. Studio time is available to students outside of your class time.

Don't forget to add your workshop dates to your calendar as soon as you have registered. About a week prior to your workshop you will receive an email outlining further details of the workshop including what you will learn, what you need to bring, and our cancellation policy. The email will also include our class waiver that will need to be signed online prior to attending the workshop.

At the studio we allow water and light snacks around the cutting table and sewing machines, other types of drinks and larger snacks can be enjoyed in our store sitting area. Cell phones, devices are great learning tools, you are welcome to bring and use them.

Full payment of the workshop is required at the time of registration to reserve your spot. Participants must be 14 years of age or older to participate on their own in the workshop unless otherwise stated. Participants between the ages of 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign their liability waiver. Participants between the ages 8 - 13 years of age can participate in the workshop as long as a paying adult participating as well.
Cancellation policy
Our cancellation policy will change as of April 8th 2024. Changes to the policy help us to provide a better experience to all of our clients. Below is our new class cancellation policy that will take into effect as of April 8th 2024.
- Full Refund: Available for cancellations made more than 7 days before the workshop date.
- 50% Refund or Transfer: For cancellations made between 3 to 7 days prior to the workshop, you have the option of receiving a 50% refund or transferring your spot to the next available workshop. If there is no complimentary workshop you will receive a 50% refund.
- No Refund/Transfer: Cancellations within 48 hours of the workshop date will not be eligible for a refund or transfer.
DEBUT workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable.
