Join us for our exclusive Paynter Jacket Workshop, guided by our expert instructor Erin, and create a timeless, bespoke jacket that will impress any recipient—or make the perfect gift for yourself! This advanced pattern from Merchant & Mills features the classic style of the Paynter Jacket, a challenging yet incredibly rewarding project that’s best tackled with professional guidance. With Erin’s expert help, you’ll navigate the more complex elements of the pattern, gain confidence, and build a garment that reflects true craftsmanship.
This is an advanced pattern and requires between 6-8 hours of independent work between classes. In the class we cover and demonstrate advanced techniques. Students have time in class to practice techniques and work on their project. Total time to complete the jacket is between 30-50 hours.
Students in Session 1 who are unable to complete the homework can sign up for Session 2 to continue work in the studio.

Workshop Dates
Session 1 - Sunday February 16th, 23rd & March 2nd, 9th
Session 2 - Sunday March 23rd, 30th & April 6th 13th
You should already know how to:
- Independently thread and adjust the sewing machine
- Sew a beginner pattern
- Read simple sewing instructions
You will learn:
- Constructing an advanced pattern
- Techniques for creating a professional garment
Materials Needed:
- 2.5 - 3.5 meters of light to medium weight wovens up to 8oz, cotton twills, denim, wool and dry oilskin.
- Matching thread
- 13x 2cm/¾" buttons.
- 4x 1.2-1.5cm/½” buttons.
- 0.8m/1yd interfacing.
- 10cm/¼yd lightweight cotton for pocket flap tabs, if using heavy fabric.
Starting February 2025 all workshops will be held at our new location 43 Cootes Dr. Dundas, ON (behind Tessi & Co.).

Don't forget to add your workshop dates to your calendar as soon as you have registered. About a week prior to your workshop you will receive an email outlining further details of the workshop including what you will learn, what you need to bring, and our cancellation policy. The email will also include our class waiver that will need to be signed online prior to attending the workshop.

At the studio we allow water and light snacks around the cutting table and sewing machines, other types of drinks and larger snacks can be enjoyed in our store sitting area. Cell phones, devices are great learning tools, you are welcome to bring and use them.

Full payment of the workshop is required at the time of registration to reserve your spot. Participants must be 14 years of age or older to participate on their own in the workshop unless otherwise stated. Participants between the ages of 14-17 must have a parent or guardian sign their liability waiver. Participants between the ages 8 - 13 years of age can participate in the workshop as long as a paying adult participating as well.
Cancellation policy
- Full Refund: Available for cancellations made more than 7 days before the workshop date.
- 50% Refund or Transfer: For cancellations made between 3 to 7 days prior to the workshop, you have the option of receiving a 50% refund or transferring your spot to the next available workshop. If there is no complimentary workshop you will receive a 50% refund.
- No Refund/Transfer: Cancellations within 48 hours of the workshop date will not be eligible for a refund or transfer.
DEBUT workshops are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Workshop spots are transferable, if you are unable to make your workshop, send a friend! Call or text us to let us know of the switch.
